The Southern Photo Story

Southern Photo was founded in 1963 by Ben Curasi. Back then it was known as Southern Photo Supply. Its first location was on US-1 in Melbourne, but moved shortly thereafter to the end of Babcock Street. The firm was owned for many years by Bill Partridge until October of 1990, when Lisa Fournier bought the business. Two years later, in 1992, Lisa moved the business to the intersection of US-1 and Lake Washington. The change in location brought more visibility to the store, and helped the company grow. As plans were made to widen US-1, Southern Photo moved to it's current location on NASA Blvd. The location between the Melbourne and Eau Gallie causeways, near Holmes Regional Medical Center, US-1, Melbourne International Airport and Historic Downtown Melbourne, provides easy access, and ample parking.

In 2004, as much of Florida and other coastal states suffered from the severe damage of a string of violent hurricanes, Southern Photo was also hard hit. Thanks to the dedicated staff and its many loyal customers, the business managed through a temporary move to a business plaza across the street while its facilities were reconstructed. Lisa used this opportunity to completely renovate the store's look with an attractive new face-lifted image. Today, you can't miss the big red camera on the building and sign, the new identity of a long time landmark in Brevard County.
